A new garden for an extended Victorian farmhouse
Set in beautiful rural Worcestershire, this Victorian farmhouse
with modern extension needed a sympathetic touch to make sense of the muddled landform left behind by the builders and marry both the
new and old architecture with the wider landscape.
We’ve used a simple plane of water outside the sliding doors to
bring the light and big skies into the garden, without obstructing longer views into the countryside.
Two curved banks of ornamental grasses and perennials
help to link the garden and the ‘borrowed landscape’ beyond, and mark the seasons with their cycle of growth.
Even in the first season
after planting, this mix already has beautiful form and structure. This is an ongoing project with work being implemented in phases and
it’s lovely to be able to revisit and see the garden maturing.
