Suburban Transformation
The owners of this suburban garden in Prestbury outside Cheltenham, were fed up with it and entrusted Chameleon Design with taking a fresh look at its potential. We worked with the level changes and made the most of the south facing aspect to bring about a complete transformation. Introducing diagonals with the summerhouse as a focal point overcomes the slightly awkward wider-than-deep dimensions.
The design was drawn up in 3D using computer software to form a virtual reality model, so that it could be fully understood before approval was given to finalise the masterplan.
Completed in October 2010, the strong crisp lines of the garden already look great. Use of a mellow red brick links back to the house, while other materials pick up on the colours of a nearby Cotswold stone spire; and the height of the boundary fence was carefully calculated to give privacy without shutting out the wider landscape.
Chameleon Design drew up construction details for the bespoke oak pergola and the cedar fence, which was designed to allow light to slant through while still ensuring privacy, and to look good even before the climbers grow up. We saw the project through to completion, including putting the work out to tender and inspecting the build as it progressed. In this way we are able to ensure that the finished garden is exactly as planned.
The garden is now far from average, and the clients describe it as ‘beyond our wildest dreams’ – praise indeed!
