Cotswolds contemporary
Stop Press: We have just heard that this garden has been shortlisted for the 2013 Society of Garden Designers Awards!
A wonderful commission to design a new garden for art-loving clients living in a cutting edge contemporary house on the edge of Cheltenham in Gloucestershire. With clients open to innovation, the design includes a curved wall built using rammed earth excavated to form the water features. In response to the architecture of the house, strong sweeping curves shape the forms of the water features and raised lawn, and the smoothly sawn stone and green oak complement the existing sandy brick buildings and Cotswold stone garden walls.
Chameleon Design’s 3D computer model of the design helped the clients to fully understand the design before it was built, creating a virtual reality which is invaluable where designs feature changes of level.
Site constraints included protected trees and removal of permitted development rights. Our service included liaison with the local authority, and we obtained planning permission on the clients’ behalf.
Beautifully built by Outdoor Living Space following our detailed construction drawings, the garden is finished to an uncompromisingly high standard. Completed in Autumn 2011, the photos show the garden freshly planted, with a year or two to go before the desired final effect is achieved. There is nothing tired or cliched about this garden, which is an exciting and innovative response to adventurous clients and architecture.
