A garden restoration
This mature North Yorkshire garden, high up and overlooking the
moors, had been neglected for many years but still had ‘good bones’. The current owner wanted to restore it sensitively, whilst
updating it to include a potager-inspired terrace overlooked by the new conservatory, and a spacious barbeque/ viewing area next
to the tennis court.
Some parts of the garden called for a fairly light touch,
rebuilding damaged drystone walls, laying new land drains, selectively pruning and felling overgrown trees and shrubs, and
replanting. We used locally sourced stone and gravel, and hand made clay bricks to give a traditional feel in keeping with
the history of the property.
This sunken garden area looks as though it was made for the
beautiful lead-roofed summerhouse and simple elegant pool. The visual axis continues through the garden, leading to restored
steps flanked by carefully chosen terracotta pots, and a restored stone and timber pergola.
