A
green retreat
This
design takes as a starting point the spiral staircase leading
from the raised ground floor veranda, and uses this form to
generate a series of half and full circles leading diagonally
through the garden to stepping stones over the curvy free-form
pond, to arrive at a beautiful antique Kashmiri bench. By
organising the space in this way, the garden appears to be
much bigger than it actually is.
The skilful use of flowing
curves and careful choice of materials links the separate
areas and delights the eye. The design also satisfies the
owners' wish for planting beds for both sun- and shade-loving
plants, and the inclusion of wildlife habitat.
The owners
love sitting out on the sunny terrace and have hosted a garden
party for 40 people, with the wall of upright timbers coming
into its own as a casual perch!
